Due to high patient demand and the limited availability of appointments, SHS charges a $20 no-show fee if you miss your appointment. You must cancel your appointment in advance to avoid the no-show fee charge.
The no-show fee charge will appear on your account the day after your missed appointment. Please pay this charge at the Bursar’s Office as no cash payments can be accepted at Student Health Services.
How to cancel your appointment (to avoid a No Show Fee)
- Cancel your appointment online via myHealth.
- Call SHS at 415-338-1251. When SHS is closed, after dialing, press 2.
- Please leave a message stating your First Name, Last Name, Student ID number, and the date and time of the appointment you wish to cancel.
- Your message will be date and time stamped.
No Show Fee Petition Process
No shows for appointments will result in an automatic $20.00 charge to your Bursar’s account. If you feel you received this fee in error and would like to petition for a fee waiver, please note that petitions will only be approved for significant bona-fide reasons.
To submit your petition, please email the SHS Business Office with the following information:
- First Name, Last Name and Student ID#
- Date of missed appointment and Explanation for Fee Waiver request
- Send email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Subject line: No Show Fee Petition
- You must use your SF State email address.
You have up to one month after your missed appointment to submit your “No Show Fee Waiver Request.” Please be advised that it may take 5 working days after receipt to process your petition. The reply will be sent to your SF State email address.
Students enrolled in the following SF State programs do not pay a Student Health Fee:
- College of Extended Learning
- Workshop Institute
- Thesis (one semester past 899 class only)
- Employee Fee Waiver students
must pay $60 per general medical visit and plus any additional charges for immunizations, laboratory tests, medications, etc

For students who have a hold on their registration and cannot register for classes:
California State University (CSU)-Sponsored Insurance Policy
After you purchase the CSU-sponsored policy, Wells Fargo Student Insurance Division will automatically notify the SF State Registrar’s Office to release your insurance hold with each purchase. Online purchases will generate a notice immediately. During peak or busiest periods, it may take the Registrar up to one working week to release your registration hold.
Make sure the Registrar can clear your hold in time for your priority registration date.
When buying the CSU-sponsored policy with Wells Fargo Student Insurance Division, make your purchase at least 5 business days before your payment deadline for online purchases, or 15 business days if sending the payment by mail.
