Students enrolled in the following SF State programs do not pay a Student Health Fee must pay $60 per general medical visit and plus any additional charges for immunizations, laboratory tests, medications, etc. See SF State program that do not pay a Student Health Fee:

Due to high patient demand and the limited availability of appointments, SHS charges a $20 no-show fee if you miss your appointment. You must cancel your appointment in advance to avoid the no-show fee charge.

The no-show fee charge will appear on your account the day after your missed appointment.  Please pay this charge at the Bursar’s Office as no cash payments can be accepted at Student Health Services.

  • Cancel your appointment online via myHealth.
  • Call SHS at (415) 338-1251.  When SHS is closed, after dialing, press 2.
  • Please leave a message stating your First Name, Last Name, Student ID number, and the date and time of the appointment you wish to cancel.
  • Your message will be date and time stamped.

No shows for appointments will result in an automatic $20 charge to your Bursar’s account. If you feel you received this fee in error and would like to petition for a fee waiver, please note that petitions will only be approved for significant reasons.

To submit your petition, please email the SHS Business Office with the following information:

  • First Name, Last Name and Student ID #
  • Date of missed appointment and Explanation for Fee Waiver request
  • Send email to

  • You must use your SF State email address.

You have up to one month after your missed appointment to submit your “No Show Fee Waiver Request.”  Please be advised that it may take five working days after receipt to process your petition.  The reply will be sent to your SF State email address.

Insurance HOLDs

The Board of Trustees of the California State University (CSU) requires all matriculated, degree-seeking F-1 international students to have health insurance as a condition of registration and continued enrollment in the California State University system. 

How to Clear International Health Insurance Hold

You must clear the “International Health Insurance Hold” (if you receive one) before you can enroll in courses for an upcoming semester.  To clear the hold, you can purchase the insurance plan for the upcoming semester at  or sign an international health insurance waiver (exceptions during COVID-19 pandemic)

Allow at least 2 business days (not including weekends) for the hold to be cleared.

  • Students on a government-sponsored scholarship which provides compatible insurance coverage as a part of the sponsorship should e-mail contact OIP at for instructions.
  • Students receiving insurance coverage through an employer-sponsored plan in the United States (i.e. receipt of insurance is a part of the U.S. employment compensation through your spouse) should contact Mr. Michael Beatty at SF State Enterprise Risk Management office at for instructions to clear the insurance hold.  Please include your full-name and SF State ID in your e-mail.


MMR Immunization HOLDs

How to print out your immunization records if you have been immunized at Student Health Services:

    • Log in to myHealth
    • Click on “Immunizations” on the left side bar
    • You will see a list of all immunizations and vaccinations you got at SHS.
    • Click the “Show Details” checkbox
    •  Click “Print” in the upper right-hand corner
    • Take or mail a copy of your immunization records to Registrar’s Office.

If you were not immunized at Student Health Services or cannot find your immunization records please read this information.


Financial HOLDs

If the financial hold on your account is because of charges at Student Health Services, we recommend the following:

  • Make sure the financial hold is, in fact, an SHS charge by logging onto myHealth (link) to check your billing statement.
  • To have your HOLD removed, you must first pay your overdue charges.
  • Pay online by logging into your SF State Gateway (link) or
  • Pay the charge in person at the Bursar’s Office and ask the teller to remove the hold.
  • If you need to dispute any charges owed at Student Health Services (SHS) or if there is a problem with your bill send an email to
